20th-May-2005 02:18 pm - Probably the worst program on air..
yosemete
If anybody reading this watches Udaya TV at 10:30 weekdays regularly and admiringly then probably you are at a worst place to be my likable. Because i feel the reality TV program "Kurigalu Sar" is probably the worst low quality ever prgram ever to be sreeened on air so far. Over all these years of TV watching i had never felt like this to grade a program as worst. Its a pity i have felt that.

I think this absurd, rubbish program has taken the standards of public TV programming to great depths never seen before. The program started from being nowhere and presently its going nowhere. All those jobless incompetent guys do there is pick up a quarell and create nuisance to public by creating a troublesome environment, anger them and fight with them. To avoid possible undesirable results like a physical attack they call for backup and when ppl become increasingly aggresive they reveal and tell with no "Nachike", "Idu Udaya TV programmu.. Navu madithella Thamashige". Ppl laugh at that point but they dont remember the real mental agony and anxiety that they would left earlier owing to the quarell.

Anybody can do sucha program. For picking up quarells u dont need to research u can think of thousands in seconds. Those absurds are after publicity counting on cheap and quiet incompetent effort that go into making this program. Reality programming like this is one of the best ideas one can think of. What u need in them is u need to create a healthy amusing, un-natural and a funny humorous situation where ppl are amused or confused and then tell the truth. Everyone will laugh after a healthy funny incident. Programs like Chupa Rustham, Candid Camera and just for laughs GAGS do this best and thats why they are admired by all and are best. "Kurigalu Sar" does just the opposite.. they create a highly inflammable, menacacing nuisance to public. This program shud be stopped immedietly. By doin so please stop troubling and nuisansing the public in the name of entertainment. But ironical as a proof of our ppl's im-maturity and cheap entertainment tastes this rubbish program enjoyes popularity.
4th-May-2005 04:05 pm - Celebrity modelling : A critique
yosemete
Today it is often that we see celebrities like cricketers and film stars modelling for commercial products. It has become alomost a part time profession for them. The motive of the related organizations behind this marketing choice is to popularize their product, making customers buy them scoring on the publicity that their product is recommended by such highly famed celebrities.

Ok celebrities are great and famous. But for them to recommend a particular product, are they experts in that particular domain of the product ?, so that they have understood all the factors related to the product and tested it and hence convinced that the product is superior and hence they are recommending them ?. In all the cases this is unlikely as they expertize in their fields such as cricket or acting and not anything else. You can't expect somebody like Sachin Tendulkar to be world's best batsman and also simultaneously be an expert in automobiles or bikes. Or you can't expect Amitabh Bachchan to be the "Badshah of Bollywood" and at the same time be a soft drinks expert. It is not possible. So the companies are bagging on the fame and glory of the celebrity to convince the customers into buying their products.

Now fame is the main reason why TVS motors, Pepsi go after Sachin Tendulkar who rests in millions of hearts than somebody like Prathap BN or Madhur Raj N who are only known to people who they know. If you analyze it more deeply the so called celebrities are selling their fame for mere money in promoting some company's product. Now lets think about how did these celebrities become so famous ?. Apart from their own skills and expertizes in their domain it is the Love, Admiration and Respect that millions of fans pour over these celebrities aknowledging their talents and achivements that hugely contributes to their fame. So it turns out that the fans and the people are the main reason why celebrities become so famous and for whatever position, glory and money that they acquire in the society.

22nd-Mar-2005 06:49 pm - Black was beautiful, but...
yosemete
Last weak me Anoop n our freind Krishna had gone to watch Black.Krishna for the second time, hes a big fan of Rani. At the end of the movie there were tears in my eyes. Because there was full swinging fan right above my head itching my eyes all the time.

Overall movie was very good. Professional direction, acting, grand photography, costumes. Everything was fine. Nice touching story well presented spreading awareness among the public about the lives n issues of people with adverse disabilities. It gave clear message to the public to look at such persons with a special eye. No songs.. shows professiional film making approach that rates practicality above traditional means.

But 'Black' does have some drawbacks that are secondary in nature. Firstly director has needlessly sensationalized things by depecting the young girl as mentally retarded. he seems to have little control over her mind and acts very much like a ferocious beasts at times. Now why you need these things in a disabled persons. It wud have been better if the girl was depicted as a inactive girl totally neglected by her own parents n one who seemed to have no future. Amitabh does say shes not mentally retarded but her actions contradict this very much.

Secondly i was totally confused which location SLB actually meant in the film. It was supposed to be Shimla, HP, India. But the settings looked very much like American and that too not a 2005 setting.. very much a 1950s American setting !. All the dresses , roads , shops etc all echoed this. Didnt see any India in the Poeple or the places. So totally a weird n confusing place to mean it as Shimala. Totally out of sorts. This probably shows the western mind set of SLB. Hes more a fancy suit-boot western guy.

I think this is what actauly happened, SLB wanted to bring some glamour to the film by depicting a Christian family. Initially it might have been just that. Then he created a christian community. Added some westernization, addded some more , added some more and again added some more. He added so much lost in westrnization that he totally forgot that the settings were supposed to be in Shimla, India and finally he went to a 1950 American setting from what was supposed to be India. Very strange. The fact that more than half the dialogue is in English points towards needless fancy n sensetionalization.

This sensetionalization very much masks against the exellence thats been put into making the film. The exllence is there but invisible since its under the shadow of sensetionalization. Anyway as i said these are secondary issues n much more important things stand out against it. Take these drawbacks out its a wonderful film that holds u stiff n never takes your mind away. But one expects perfection from such a qualified , critically acclaimed film maker like SLB, not impracticle things.

Overall i wont call it it a masterpiece or a milestone, anyway worth watching good movie. I wudnt call it as the best movie i've seen. I'l give a 3 n a half. Oscars... iam a bit sceptical abt it. May be it will be Indian entry to Oscars but will loose to a better movieat the nomination stage itself.
