Last month on 2nd Sept, i trekked to MullayanGiri during a family visit to Chikmaglur. The first trek of the season. Last time in Nov had been here on bike. MullayanGiri is the tallest peak in Karnataka. It is a part of Bababudan ranges of the western ghats in Chikmaglur Dist. Along the same range one would get BababudanGiri, Kemmangundi hills also. Atop there is a temple of Mullaya or God Shiva. MullayanaGiri literally means 'Mountain of Mullaya' or 'Mountain of God Shiva'.

We(me and my uncle Mahaveer) started at around 11 in the morning in a bike from Chikmaglur. In less than 15 mins we were at the foot hills of MullayanGiri. Road goes through coffe estates all the way. The road actually goes to BababudanGiri. After some 10 Kms from Chikmaglur town one would get a deviation to the left, which marks the tar road to MullayanaGiri that goes almost to the top. Just a little distance from the deviation one would get the foot route to the hill called 'SarpaNadi'. It is a age old route made by devotees to walk up to the Shiva temple on top of the hill. The trek route is still in a good condition with moderate difficulty levels with some parts of the climb being steep. Its is not advisable to trek here during rainy season. Its is actually 'Sarpana Hadi' which in Kannada translates to 'Snake Path'. It is called so since the path till the top goes very twisted and curvy like the way snake moves. Hence the name.
