As the continuing series of my Activa trips to places around Bangalore this time we went to Meke Datu. Had heard that the place is scenic. In some of the photos too the place looked very nice, so decided to have a go. But this time the partner was
madhurrajn not
indianerd as before. May be he was busy staying at home.
First the place, Meke Datu is about 98 KM from Bangalore. Route, go in Kanakapura Road till KanakaPura and then take a left there enroute to Sangam. Sangam is a place where two rivers Kaveri and Arkavati meet. From Sangam a further 4 KM drive/walk through the forest path leads to Meke Datu, a beautiful natural spot, a ravine. Legend has it that at MekeDatu river Kaveri flows so narrow that even a goat can leap and cross the river to the other end. I dont know if that was really a goat or a little horse mistaken for a goat, the story lives on. Most of the Road enroute is good and promises a cool bike ride.
I left home at 6 in the morning and picked up Madhur on the way. After a brief breakfast, we headed in Kanakapura road. By the time we reached Sangam it was 10:30. Before Sangam there is small stretch of around 5-6 Kms of Ghat section. Enroute we found a lorry met with an accident due to break failure.
Sangam highly apealing with beautiful landscapes, a two rivers confluence place surronded by forests and mountains all around. Scenaery looks very beautiful and mystic also. Being still summer there wasent much water. We didnt get into water or play in it, took out our shoes and crossed the river. On the other end of the river, in the forest there is a mud road. 4 Kms on the road takes you to Meke Datu, our actual destination.
There is transport for that, some private buses. They charge 40 for a to and from travel. Looking at the pathetic state of those buses we seriously didnt feel like getting into them. They actually didnt look like buses, they rather looked like some big 'Dabbas'(fragile boxes of steel). All of them looked like they were brought out from retirement(Gujari) like footballer Zidane for service or is it torture tourists?. The polluting noise they made, felt like they were angry and wanting to break down and go to retirement again.
